Pub Bigot - you must be confident fielding a team of reserves, and only 10 of them at that.

You joke but that team handles a lot of lower league opposition and a few Europa League teams.

Fabianski Johnson Kehrer Ogbonna Cresswell Soucek Coventry Antonio Cornet Ings
That would be my starting XI for the season. Antonio back in the wing feeding Ings. Cornet proven scorer if given the chance. Soucek and Fornals hard to breakdown with Fornals the technician playing passes, Johnson’s our best right-back by a mile, underused and under appreciated, likewise Cresswell.
A winning team, that.

At least we are having the conversation.
It means we have some decent players for all the cups.

Yes, fair enough. But my general point still stands.

Soucek has been excellent?
I’d like to see Moyes persist with him ahead of any of the new signings - or rather I’m very happy I won’t.

Exile n Stubbo. Agree with some of that. But like exile has eluded to Bowen is not a winger back. He's best when he's further up the pitch as in Saturdays goal and the ECL goal, his runs with his pace from the half way line one touch and bang.

All well.and good doing these teams, but you know fully well moyes is gonna shoe horn soucek in
Also hugely concerned he's gonna shove someone on the left wing that is in no way a winger

Surface. He's not exactly been excellent. Bowen has been excellent. Souceks been good. He would have been a better bet than bringing on Kehrer on Saturday. Our weakness will be our full backs if we are more attacking. With the bank of 4 in front of the bank of 5 that doesn't allow much room to be attacked down the flanks. With Kudus playing an attacking role that will leave us more open. Will Moyes then go more attacking in total. Not sure he knows how. Hope Tim has been scouring for an attacking coach too.

Re: Strongest XI

@The Exile....it's the big question in my line up.
Reason I went with it is two-fold....he works hard and spends so much time in that fullback position in a Moyes side anyway, that I done see it as a big adjustment if he's playing as a proper attacking wingback.
Secondly, Mavropanos has filled in as a fullback on the right and is pace and skillfull enough to push out there to cover when Bowen is caught up the pitch.
Couple this with Alvarez's ability to drop into the backline as needed and his dedicated roll at spotting danger, and I think a back 3 with Alvarez in front could work.
I also think Kudus alongside Antonio could be better than other forward line combinations, and as you say, Coufal is one of the weaker links.
Just something if it was down to me I'd want to explore.

I'm not saying he gets in our strongest XI, but Soucek has been excellent this season (and decent the end of last). I can see why Moyes would want to have him on hand, even if he doesn't start every game.

Stubbo - good shout. The difference between your team and mine is that I had a back four with Coufal on the right, but I am aware that Coufal is a bit of a weak link. I like the idea of a back three with Mavropanos on the right. However, two doubts about your set-up: firstly, is Moyes inclined to play a back three and stick to it? He hasn't done so yet this season. Secondly, is Bowen really a wing-back?

Re: Strongest XI

I would say it's fairly obvious what our strongest side is, on paper anyway, as per below. That said Benny would be unlucky to be left out and no doubt Soucek still has his fans out there in the real world away from WHO, in fact he has.
Anyhow, with injuries, suspensions, many games etc, the ''strongest team'' game is all a bit futile anyway.

Rotating players all season is so not Moyes.
Just been looking on Facebook, there's a lot of jealous Mancs and gooners.

I’m thinking that Moyes will be telling the players he’s rotating all season.
I feel like when we did well we ran out of steam because he played Antonio, soucek and rice constantly. He doesn’t have to do that now.
Everyone can get a rest and everyone is equally the same level. Maybe the plan is there isn’t really a 1st 11 this season?

Well the new Greek guy is going to fit in somewhere, suspect in the back four. Can't remember his name but I thought destined to get on the end of JWP set pieces.

Re: Strongest XI

Hard to call, from everything supposed itk have said Kudus plays on the right and Bowen down the middle. Antonio by all accounts still wants to leave, but has been on his game so far, but the cynic in me is questioning is it because he wants a move and will he revert back to his first half of last season form if he doesn't get it?
Benrahma was really good Saturday, if he continues like that he'll play, but also a big if.
We all know how Moyes loves to shoe horn Soucek in but the midfield three surely needs to be Alvarez - JWP and Paqueta.. Who really shouldn't be playing on the left as that's where Milan played him and he was poor there, a Lyon fan said it was his worst position.

Funny how no one has Soucek in their best team. And he just signed a new 4 yr contract!
Who knows what’s going on in Moyes’ head?

We were certainly better after Soucek went off, but as the game wore on they were always going to be more open to the counter anyway. I thought Paqueta looked okay on the left. There was one through ball in particular that Antonio should have scored from. He has actually played there a few times for Brazil, and I can imagine him playing there now we have Kudus, with the new fella playing similar to how Lingard did for us:
-------------Areola Coufal Zouma Aguerd Emerson ----------Alvarez JWP Bowen---Kudus---Pacqueta -----------Antonio

I thought Kehrer was very unlucky to not be picked at rb in the Europa Conf final. He had come into some good form.
